Center Street Plaza

Telegraph for People is joining Walk Bike Berkeley in the push to convert a portion of Center Street between Oxford St  and Shattuck Ave into an open pedestrian plaza. The developer of 2128 Oxford Street, Berkeley's tallest apartment building to ever be approved, wants the city to use their Streets and Open Space Improvement Plan (SOSIP) development impact fee to design and build the plaza.

TFP is pushing the City to dedicate these funds to realizing the long-standing vision of a greener, more walkable Center Street to connect the UC Campus and Downtown Berkeley. We hope that the City can start designing the plaza soon so that Berkeley's first car-free pedestrianized street can begin construction in 2028.
